ALEXANDER, MORGAN, BAYTOP, SMITH, TOMKIES - Dr. David Alexander Married Ann Morgan about 1680: Lived in Glouchester County when children were born: daughter who married Thomas Baytop III, in York Co. I believe; Ann Alexander born about 1682 married Gates Smith abt 1710; Mary Alexander born abt 1686 married Dr. Charles Tomkies; Capt David Alexander Jr. born about 1686 and John Alexander born about 1684. Dr David Alexander remained in Glouchester Co. for many years. I have found no will or probate. All of the family has been accounted for except John Alexander who became a Justice of the peace prior to and in 1726. What became of John? Is there a record in Glouchester County after 1726? Is it he who received a land grant in 1727 in Brunswick Co. Va. and died there in 1733? I f there is a record in Glouchester of him after 1727, he could not be the John Alexander showing up in Brunswick Co.. The land was later recorded in Mecklenburg Co. when that portion of Brunswick was cut off and formed into Mecklenburg County.

BROWN, SMITH, GAYLE - Looking for descendants and ancestors of family of Susannah P SMITH BROWN GAYLE, b. ca 1856 in Gloucester County. Have found records that her father was Peter SMITH, had brothers, Isaac and John. Married Robert BROWN, had children Robert BROWN m. Mariah ______, Nancy BROWN m. James COLEMAN, and Warner BROWN, m. Mary Ann NEAL, Matilda SMITH and Martha Ann SPAIN. then married Thomas GAYLE, had children Thomas GAYLE, m Elizabeth COLEMAN, Christopher GAYLE m. Mary J DORTCH and Nancy JONES, Peter Smith GAYLE, m. Mary Ann McConnico (McADOO) PETTUS, Sally GAYLE, m. Robert CROWDER. Believe she may be daughter of Peter SMITH and Bathsheba FOSTER. And believe she may be descended from John SMITH and Mary WARNER family. Also believe that Warner BROWN's second wife was daughter of Perrin SMITH who was possibly another child of Peter SMITH and Bathsheba FOSTER as they named children Peter M BROWN and Perrin Smith BROWN. Have partial copy of book about Peter B SMITH and Catherine G DAVIS family and realize this would also make Susannah his sister. Susannah lived to be 97 and I have her will and other information that substantiates where and when she was born and died.
Would like to correspond with ANYONE who is doing research on these families. Thank you so very much for any help you might give me.

WHITTEMORE - I am seeking information on some early WHITTEMOREs in Gloucester County. A Gloucester County land patent in 1668 mentions adjoining land of John WHITMORE. A Gloucester County land patent in 1673 mentions adjoining land of Jno. WITTMORES. A Petsworth Parrish (Gloucester) Vestry record in 1679 notes distribution of money to Jno. W HITTAMORE. A Gloucester County land patent in 1681 mentions land near that of John WHITTAMORE. A Gloucester County land patent in 1682 notes land adjacent to John WHITTAMORE's plantation. A Gloucester Rent Roll in 1704/5 of Petsworth Parrish notes 150 acres of William WHITTMORE, "Desarted". Later in the early 1700's a William WHITTAMORE shows up in records of Brunswick County, Virginia. Were William WHITTMORE and John WHITTAMORE of Gloucester County related, and if so, how? Please let me know if you have any further history on any of these WHITTEMOREs.
