Kindergarten Elects Teachers.
Much to the surprise of those interested, the Kindergarten Association
at
its meeting yesterday afternoon elected Miss Ruth GILLIAM, of
Ginter Park,
principal of the kindergarten school for the coming session in
place of Miss
Grace McKEE, of Chicago, who has so successfully conducted the
institution
the past session. Miss Lucie OWEN, formerly of this city, will
be the
assistant. This will be the first year with two instructors at
the school,
but the attendance last year and the prospects for a large increase
at the
opening of the coming session seem to justify the move.
Miss COLEMAN, head of the Richmond Training School for Kindergarten
Teachers, was present at the meeting, which was held at the home
of Mrs. A.
J. DAFFRON, and it was at her advice that Miss GILLIAM was elected
to the
position. Miss COLEMAN usually has the placing of the teachers
in the
various kindergartens, and, as Miss McKEE had not applied for
the postition,
she recommended the name of Miss GILLIAM.
Much regret is expressed in this city that Miss McKEE is not
to return. She
proved to be a thoroughly efficient teacher; was beloved by the
young
pupils, and it was largely due to her earnest appeal before the
Council that
the association secured the appropriation of $100. Miss GILLIAM
comes highly
recommended.
Personals and Briefs.
"Ye Deestrik Schuie," a humorous play, will be presented
at Leader Hall
Friday night for the benefit jointly of the various lodges of
the Jr. O. U.
A. M. and the Decatur Street Methodist Church.
Mrs. John LATHRAM and Miss Ruth LATHRAM left yesterday for Mt.
Blanch, O.,
where they will attend the reunion of the LATHRAM family, which
takes place
in that city Thursday. Last year at the annual reunion more than
280 members
were present.
Squire H. A. JORDAN, who has been sick for the past two weeks,
is reported
to be greatly improved. It is expected that he will be able to
be out on the
streets in a few days.
