Newport Parish Vestry Book: Processioning - 1752-1760 ("Processioning" was the process of land owners and witnesses reconfirming the boundary lines between adjacent properties -- generally every four years).

You will also note close family connections with residents in the adjacent counties of Surry and Nansemond. Often property owned by one individual might cross county lines – as they still do today. Since Southampton County was created from Isle of Wight about 1750, the people who later show up in Southampton did not migrate, but had county boundaries created around them.
